Alex Horrox-White – Director

Alex has served as Chair (and previously Vice Chair) on the Committee for RMTC for the last 4 years, so is used to leading a fantastically talented group of people, and hopes that this show will be no different. Although usually appearing on stage with Radlett (including Don José Addams, The Addams Family; Constable, Fiddler on the Roof; Chef Louis, The Little Mermaid, Bus Driver, All Shook Up; as well as numerous roles in several of our brilliant ‘One Nighter’ shows), he has recently found himself helping out backstage too.

Alex trained as an actor in East Anglia, and since graduating has been lucky enough to take on a wide variety of roles in both classical and musical theatre. Working with numerous companies around Hertfordshire, some standouts include Pooh-Bah, The Mikado; Romeo, Romeo & Juliet; Caiaphas, Jesus Christ Superstar; Peron, Evita; The Pirate King, Pirates of Penzance; Toad, Wind in the Willows; Benedick, Much Ado About Nothing; Terence Avery, Bracken Moor; Orsino, Twelfth Night; Audrey II, Little Shop of Horrors.

No stranger to directing, he and Emma last joined forces in 2024, bringing the Gilbert & Sullivan classic HMS Pinafore to life for Abbots Langley G&S Society, and it was a triumphant sellout success. Having wanted to mount a production of Hunchback for over a decade, this show means a great deal, and he couldn’t be happier to have such a brilliant team to help bring that vision to life. With a background in liturgical music, having been a choral scholar when he was younger and at university, and now singing in church regularly, Alex is really looking forward to working on a show where music plays such an integral role, and couldn’t be happier to have Phil on board as MD.

This show thrives on its active chorus, so Alex is keen to get as many people involved as possible. Although we follow Quasimodo’s journey through the show, the story is told by an ensemble who play all the parts – ranging from the lowliest beggar to the King of France himself. This show is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in one of the most thrilling and beautiful shows ever written, and there really is a part for everyone.

Emma Stratton – Assistant Director & Choreographer

Emma is no stranger to RMTC, having last performed with the company as Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street last October. Prior to this she has played JennyAnyDots in Cats, Charity Barnum in Barnum and Ursula the Evil Sea Witch in The Little Mermaid, all with RMTC.

Emma has also performed in 3 of our very first ‘One Nighter’ concerts and also co-directed and choreographed the hilarious RMTC production of Acorn Antiques!

Emma graduated from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts with a Postgraduate Diploma in Acting and Musical Theatre and went on to perform locally and nationally in a variety of shows and concerts. Her favourite roles include Mama Rose in Gypsy, Anna/Lady Thiang in The King & I, Anita in West Side Story, Sally in Cabaret, Lucy in Snoopy, Adelaide in Guys & Dolls, Gertrude in Seussical, Cassie in A Chorus Line, Nancy in Oliver! Peggy/Maggie (& now Dorothy!) in 42nd Street, most G&S mezzo roles, and Emma in the one woman show Tell Me on a Sunday. She has also more recently delved into the Opera world playing Carmen with ALGSS and Ulrica in Verdi’s ‘The Masked Ball’.

Emma has taught dance & music for Stagecoach and local primary schools and has choreographed local productions for over 25 years, also directing a handful of productions more recently. She is delighted to be assistant director and choreographer for The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It is such a beautiful story with equally beautiful music and so many opportunities for the whole cast to be involved. Emma plans to get as many of the cast as possible at least ‘moving’ and hopefully dancing, as she works in a way that means the movement / dance is integral to the storytelling. She hopes that you will all want to be involved in what the whole production team believes will be a very special show.

By day Emma works at Heathland’s School for Deaf Children in St Albans and currently has Level 3 in BSL.

Philip Clemence-Jackson – Musical Director

The Hunchback of Notre Dame will be Philip’s 5th show on an RMTC creative team, having MD’d We Will Rock You, Legally Blonde, Avenue Q and Musicality. Other MDing credits include Sweeny ToddRock of Ages, Oklahoma, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Wedding Singer, Into the Woods, and the UK debut of The Book of Mormon. Philip’s experience is not limited to the pit: he has also appeared on stage in shows including The Addams Family (Uncle Fester), The Wedding Singer (George), Seussical (Mr Mayor), A Little Night Music (Henrik), My Fair Lady (Freddie), Into the Woods (Narrator/Mysterious Man); and The Last 5 Years (Jamie). Outside of musical theatre he has been involved with choirs (both as organist and singer), acapella and barbershop groups, jazz bands and concert bands and teaching.

He draws on this broad experience in MDing, taking an active and dynamic approach to teaching in rehearsals. He starts with the essential melodies and rhythms and then goes beyond this to impart style, dynamics and meaning, enhancing the notes on the page beyond their basic meanings and into a fully-fledged performance that audiences will love.

Philip expects hard work from a cast throughout the whole rehearsal run, but the payoff is an effortless, professional, amazing performance by a Company which raises the bar every time.
